ABOUT MY WORK

My latest productions examine the potential of art beyond reflecting and expressing critique on reality to formulating own thoughts towards political and societal solutions. Influenced by Milo Rau's concept of Global Realism my aim is to to meet global developments at eye level and transforming my artistic expression from a reacting agent to an acting one.

Formally most of my work explores the juxtaposition of different artistic disciplines such as theatre, installation or film. The resulting in-betweens of aesthetics and forms gives rise to tensions and irritations - and a possibilities for the spectator to co-create and fill in the created "gaps". Coming from classical Stanislavski and Brecht theatre, I have continuously followed my curiosity to work with film, video, performance and installation. My interest in theatre has nevertheless remained constant. The given co-presence of audience and artists, the social situations and its norms - of which can always be questioned, as well as the duality of the two agencies: auditorium and stage hold potentials such as loss of control, shifts of power and in the best case genuine encounters for both sides.

What has shaped the content and form of my work is the questions of how roles are allocated in performative arts: what identifies the observer and the doer? What does it take to shift or evolve from one role to the other? At the start of a working process the roles and rules of audience, actors, the stage but also roles within the artistic production are always put to question and their bodies and relations are never seen as an unshakable status quo. Which roles do we act out in the theatre, in our private and our civil life? Which roles are we choosing consciously and which are given to us.

Another recurring theme in my work is the thread between dominating narratives in today's media, the western meritocracies, and the (proposed epoch of the) “anthropocene”. How do these narratives impact our perception of the world, ourselves, of what we value, and how do we narrate our own life's story?

I continuously try to give the process of creating as much emphasis and importance as the outcome itself, through questioning and evolving the forms of communication, team- and working structures and establishing a dialogue between artists and audience through-out the artists process.
